Stride into fitness with our Nordic walking group

Published on 19 February 2025 09:15 AM
This February, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is delighted to announce the launch of our beginners Nordic walking group.
The group is designed to help older adults stay active, improve their wellbeing, and connect with others in a friendly, outdoor setting. The activity is open to anyone aged 55 and over and provides a fantastic opportunity to experience the health benefits of Nordic walking, a full-body exercise that enhances mobility, strengthens muscles, and boosts cardiovascular fitness, all while being gentle on the joints.
To join the group, you will need to complete two introductory sessions, the first of which starts on Wednesday 19 February 2025 at 10.30am, meeting at the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin Office in Bellstone, Shrewsbury. The sessions will last an hour and finish with a coffee at the Quarry Café.
Emma Wilde, Wellbeing Services Manager at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin said: “Nordic walking is a fantastic way for older adults to stay active while enjoying the great outdoors. It offers physical benefits without being too strenuous, and it’s a great way to meet new people and boost overall wellbeing. We encourage anyone interested to come along and give it a try.”
Each session costs £7.00 and specialist poles will be provided. Please wear clothes/shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain and suitable for the weather. Introductory sessions are held every three months for new members who would like to join.
