A local friendship group supported by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin has become a lifeline for older people in Bridgnorth, providing a welcoming space for social interaction and forging meaningful friendships.
Since its launch, the group has grown steadily, attracting members who come together fortnightly to chat, laugh, and take part in various activities. For many, the group is more than just a chance to get out of the house, it’s a way to form lasting connections.
One of the most heart-warming successes has been seeing members of the group develop strong friendships and even split off into smaller social circles, meeting outside the group for coffee, walks, and other activities. This ripple effect has been a testament to the group’s positive impact on the lives of those involved.
Emma Wilde, Wellbeing Services Manager at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin said: "The Bridgnorth Friendship Group has been a shining example of how a little support and a friendly atmosphere can make a big difference. It’s wonderful to see people not only enjoying themselves but forming friendships that go beyond the group”.
The Bridgnorth group is open to all older people in the area who want to meet new friends and enjoy a variety of activities, from tea and chat to quizzes and games.
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would like to thank the Masonic Charitable Foundation for providing funding to set up this group, and many others in south Shropshire, to help combat loneliness.
