Volunteer spotlight on Julia

To mark Volunteers’ Week this year, we’ve been interviewing some of our wonderful volunteers to find out more about why they volunteer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
This time we’re meeting Julia, a Benefits volunteer and Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin staff member:
‘I have volunteered with various groups over the years including Homestart, working with young families, and being a literacy tutor.’
‘I am currently a Benefits Volunteer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, which I have been doing for almost two years now. It’s very rewarding work going to visit clients in their own homes to help them complete Attendance Allowance forms. More than one has come in to the office afterwards to say that getting the Allowance has changed their lives, and that feels really good.’
‘Volunteers are well trained and supported. If ever I feel uncomfortable with something, or I want to talk a situation over, it’s easy to contact one of our Benefits advisors.’
‘I also work part time for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin on reception, which is how I knew about the volunteering, but the two roles are completely separate and you don’t need any prior knowledge to volunteer.’
Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to celebrate volunteers and to thank them for the amazing work they do. If you’d like to find out more about volunteering for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, call us on 01743 233 123 or email volunteering@ageukstw.org.uk
