Volunteer spotlight on Elaine

To mark Volunteers’ Week this year, we’ve been interviewing some of our wonderful volunteers to find out more about why they volunteer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
Today it’s Elaine, who has been a Befriender for nearly two years and visits Pamela once a week. Elaine has also been a Digital Champion volunteer:
‘A friend thought I might make a good volunteer, so I gave it a try.’
‘I only have time to commit to one lady, but in the year since I have been visiting her she has gone from being a recluse, to gaining some confidence.’
‘It’s very rewarding as I really have helped her. I take her out once a week, to a garden centre or the indoor market for some lunch and sometimes to doctor’s appointments.’
Pamela says: ‘It’s been wonderful, it gives me something to look forward to and we get on really well. I don’t know what I’d do without her.’
Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to celebrate volunteers and to thank them for the amazing work they do. If you’d like to find out more about volunteering for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, call us on 01743 233 123 or email volunteering@ageukstw.org.uk
