Volunteer spotlight on Beryl

Volunteer Beryl with Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin day centre members

To mark Volunteers’ Week this year, we’ve been interviewing some of our wonderful volunteers to find out more about why they volunteer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.

Today it’s the turn of Beryl, a Day centre volunteer, who has been with us for just over a year:

‘I was looking to volunteer somewhere when I retired from my job in an NHS clinic. I really missed interacting with our older patients, so Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin was the obvious choice.’

‘I’ve been volunteering at one of their day centres for over a year and I love it.’

‘I’m the passenger assistant on the minibus, collecting our members from their homes in the morning and then I help out throughout the day with activities, serving lunch, etc.’

‘Mondays are a highlight of my week, we have such fun and spending the day with the members and my fellow volunteers is a real joy.’

‘Loneliness can be a real problem in later life and playing even a small part in Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s mission is very rewarding.’

Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to celebrate volunteers and to thank them for the amazing work they do. If you’d like to find out more about volunteering for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, call us on 01743 233 123 or email volunteering@ageukstw.org.uk
