Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's Women's Walking Football Club has arranged a special fundraising tournament in loving memory of one of its members who died last year.
The club, based at Monkmoor Recreation Ground in Shrewsbury, will host the competition on Sunday 14 April.
‘It’s in memory of our friend Bridget Jones who passed away last year,’ said volunteer organiser Kate Brown.
There will be three friendly matches of 20 minutes each. There will also be a tombola and all profits from the event will be split between Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and a cancer support charity.
The timing of the event has coincided with the presentation to the football club of a brand new kit, sponsored by energy drinks firm Lucozade.
The new kit was officially handed over to the Women’s Walking Football club by Julie Kaur, a Trustee at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. Julie is an independent retailer who succeeded in securing the new kit whilst attending a retailers’ conference in Manchester.
‘It’s such a pleasure to be able to hand over these lovely new kits to the ladies,’ said Julie who moved to Telford from Leicester 30 years ago and who prides herself on being a community fundraiser.
