Help with household tasks is being offered to older people in north Shropshire as Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin looks to encourage further uptake of its services.

The charity is now inviting people aged 60 and over in Oswestry, Ellesmere, Whitchurch, Wem and Market Drayton to apply for its Help at Home scheme.

Help at Home supports older people to maintain their independence by providing practical assistance.

The scheme employs a team of caring, well-trained Home Support Workers who carry out everyday tasks that an older person may find difficult to manage. These might include:

  • vacuuming and dusting
  • bathroom and kitchen cleaning
  • shopping and collecting prescriptions
  • laundry and ironing.

Wherever possible the same support worker will visit each time, to provide continuity, and visits are usually undertaken in two-hour blocks. There is a charge for the Help at Home service.

Before starting the service, one of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s experienced assessors will visit the person at their home, to discuss how best to help.
