Community singing group seeks new recruits

A community singing and music-making group is on the lookout for new members and promises a warm welcome to its fun, supportive and uplifting sessions.
Supported by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, the Acorn Singers place the emphasis firmly on singing for pleasure. ‘The singing is informal, and the group is rooted in the belief that we all have our own unique and wonderful voice and that everyone can sing,’ says Claire Fishlock, Service Development Officer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
‘Basically, everyone sings the main melody in unison whilst also supporting people in singing their own natural harmonies. The sessions, that take place in Telford, also include a focus on the rhythm of songs, using a range of provided percussive instruments, and also with the opportunity of gentle movement to enhance the physical benefits.’
‘We’d absolutely love to hear from anyone who’d like to join the group. These are fun, supportive, and uplifting sessions and we promise a warm welcome to newcomers.’
The group meets every Wednesday afternoon at Hadley Community Centre in Telford and costs £7.00 per session to attend.
Sessions are led by Adrian Plant, a musician (singer, guitarist, and percussionist) with more than 30 years professional experience of working with community group.
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would also like to thank the Shropshire Community Foundation for supporting the Acorn Singers. The group have been awarded £500.00 through their Welcome Spaces grant programme.
