Age UK, both nationally and locally, is highlighting its policy wish list of actions that it wants all political parties to adopt as the general election approaches.

The new campaign is called Age UK’s blueprint for improving the lives of older people and is being supported by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, the local charity that is a brand partner of the national Age UK.

‘We’d like to see political parties include these policies in their manifestos and the next Government to implement them,’ said an Age UK spokesperson.

‘We want to engage the public and Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) across the country on the issues affecting older people including:

  1. The income security from the Triple Lock staying in place and a reduction in pensioner poverty.
  2. A reliable NHS where they can see their GP quickly and get hospital treatment within a reasonable time-scale, and decent social care when its needed.
  3. Our new Government creating a long-term plan for older people and taking the lead in tackling the challenges and seizing the opportunities presented by our rapidly ageing population.’

‘We call upon all political parties to adopt these policies.’

Age UK is also reminding voters that, if they have not already done so, they must register to vote by 18 June.
