Celebrating volunteers at Christmas lunch

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin recently celebrated the dedication of our volunteers with our annual Christmas lunch at The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, recognising their vital role in supporting local older people.
The festive event brought together volunteers from across the county, in a range of roles from day centre organisers, telephone befrienders to our benefits volunteers who support local older people to fill out complex forms. Over 120 volunteers were treated to a two-course Christmas lunch and an afternoon of appreciation and celebration.
Our charity’s leadership team also took the opportunity to reflect on the impact volunteers have made in supporting older people in the local community.
Chief Executive, Heather Osborne said: ‘Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their commitment and compassion make a real difference to older people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and this event is our way of showing our gratitude and to say thank you for all their hard work.’
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would also like to say thank you to the Trustees at The Lady Forester Trust for sponsoring the event and to our previous Patron, Sir Algernon Heber-Percy for donating towards the cost.
Special thanks also to The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort for being a corporate supporter of our charity, hosting this event and their recent second annual Christmas coffee morning for our befriending volunteers and the people they befriend.
And lastly, a big thank you to DJ Kevin from Centre Stage Entertainment for stepping up at the last moment to provide his PA system and music, which added a lively festive touch to the event.
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin supports older people through services such as befriending, home help, advice, and activities and relies on the generosity of its volunteers to deliver these essential services.
