Afternoon tea hosted by the Telford Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in support of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin proved a winner with all those who turned up for a cuppa and a cake.
‘Isn’t this absolutely lovely?’ said Gill Kenward-Day who showed up with her husband Barry.
Gill has been one of the local charity’s volunteer telephone buddies since February. ‘I have two people that I phone regularly as a telephone buddy, and a good chat clearly cheers them up, but I really enjoy it too.’
A former school teacher, Gill also worked in retail for 25 years, mostly small shops but also supermarkets. She originates from Sussex while Barry is from London.
‘We only married a month ago, but we’ve been together for 28 years,’ says Gill. ‘Between the two of us we have eight children and 27 grandchildren!’
Also enjoying the tea and cakes provided by the hotel were Amarjit Bansi and Raj Shori, both trustees of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
‘This is a lovely opportunity to meet new people and spread the word about what Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin does,’ said Amarjit.
With Amarjit and Raj was Pauline Floyd who is involved in another local charity, Telford based Forum 50+, supporting people over 50 in the Telford & Wrekin area. Pauline said: ‘I wanted to pop along and meet new people and find out more about Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. What a pleasant way to spend an afternoon!’
Angela Goodman, Senior Income Generation Officer for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: ‘We really want to say a huge thankyou to everyone at the Telford Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort for putting on this lovely afternoon tea, and for their continued support of our charity.’
