Variety show is a glittering success

Flamboyant costumes, outrageous comedy, knockabout silliness and plenty of uplifting singing combined to make Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s variety show a success.
We staged our Afternoon of Entertainment, designed especially for older people, at Telford Theatre, Oakengates in May and it generated hugely positive feedback from all who went along.
‘We had missed this lovely annual event so much during the COVID lockdown period, of course, and we were all so excited to see the show back,’ said Heather Osborne, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s Chief Executive. ‘This time, it felt so fresh with some completely new acts and a great mix of music, dance and comedy.’
The show featured Britain’s Got Talent comedian Steve Royle, Black Country stars The Fizzogs, a cappella group Men in Harmony, multi-award-winning comic Ada Campe and local community choir The Darby Singers.
Heather added: ‘It was a great success. Everyone enjoyed it and the raffle we held at the event raised £400 for the charity, which is terrific. I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the show, all those who worked so hard behind the scenes to make it happen, everyone who supported it by coming along, and also the local town and parish councils who generously supported the event with funding.’
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would also like to thank Telford & Wrekin’s Mayor, Raj Mehta, who surprised Heather and Chair of Trustees, Sue Robson with an impromptu presentation of his Building Bridges award.
