Fundraisers pledge to Carry on Canoeing

Fun-loving fundraisers in fancy dress made quite a splash when they took part in a Carry On Canoeing event for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.

Now, organisers are looking at doing it all again next year.

Participants got themselves into some eye-catching costumes before taking to the River Severn in their specially-themed canoes. Themes for the canoes included the Abba musical Mamma Mia!, Flower Power, Happy Birthday, and Pirates.

The two-hour-long event saw participants setting off from the Porthill Bridge pontoon in The Quarry, Shrewsbury, for some unlikely aquatic manoeuvres and lots of laughs.

‘Each canoe held three people and so friends and families got together to make teams,’ says Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s Head of Income Generation, Catherine McCloy. ‘This really was such a fun event. In fact, we all enjoyed it so much that we are now planning to stage it again next year, so keep your eyes open for all the details.’

The canoes were provided for the event by local company Hire A Canoe Ltd.
