Kent REVS up for Cleaner Air
Kent County Council have secured £1.5m of Highways England funding to operate a two-year electric van scheme for business to help the transition to cleaner, greener transport infrastructure. The scheme is now underway and we are excited to be taking part in the ‘Kent Realising Electric Vans Scheme’ over the next couple of months trying an electric van for ‘free’.
Our MIDAS trained drivers will be utilising this electric van to deliver our community based services, including Meals on Wheels, welfare visits, along with shopping and prescription deliveries and it will be a really interesting exercise to see how an electric vehicle performs and could possibly reduce our vehicle running costs along with reducing emissions across Sheppey.
The long-term aim is for more businesses to convert their fleets to electric, wherever possible, and by allowing organising like ours to ‘try for free’ for up to two months is an ideal before businesses commit to purchasing or enter into a long-term lease. The specialist team at Kent Commercial Services are rolling out this initial operation and this will eventually lead to a range of 50 electric vans for trial throughout the county.
