Singing Teapots

Published on 14 February 2020 03:53 PM

We are excited to announce the launch of our brand new Dore and Totley People Keeping Well Intergenerational singing project in partnership with King Ecgbert School and Dore and Totley United Reformed Church.

There's extensive research that highlights the fact that taking part in activities involving different age groups has significant health benefits for those involved. We are working hard to tackle loneliness (and social isolation) experienced by over 12,000 older people in Sheffield as well as provide the opportunity for young students to learn from an older generation, build friendships and strengthen community ties.

Both choirs rehearse a set number of songs separately every week. Then, once a month, the choir that practice at the Totely United Reformed Church, and the students are brought together to enjoy a Tea party at King Ecgbert School. This provides a great opportunity for the two groups to catch up and make friends, before then singing all the songs they have practiced, together, as a complete choir.

This project has just got stared and it is already full of energy, excitement and enthusiasm! We can't wait to see how things develop for the Singing Tea Pots! Keep your eyes out for more updates on this fabulous choir!

Would you or someone you know like t get involved?
No experience is required; you just need to be over 50 years old with a love of singing! (Even if you don’t feel you have a natural singing voice)
