Energy Redress Scheme Grant for Age UK Sheffield

Older people in Sheffield are among the winners from the Energy Saving Trust’s latest round of funding announcements.
Six charities in England and Wales were awarded a total of £291,795 under Round Four of the Energy Redress Scheme - including over £63,000 awarded to Age UK Sheffield.
The fund is administered by the Energy Saving Trust and aims to distribute funds to support energy consumers in vulnerable situations and the development of projects, services and innovative products, which would provide a benefit to those most in need.

The aim of all of the projects is to help vulnerable energy consumers to save energy and money in their homes and that’s exactly what we intend to do here in Sheffield.

Our charity’s Chief Executive, Steve Chu explained that “it is fantastic news that the Energy Savings Trust have agreed to support our Older Sheffielders WIN project. The Government estimates there are over 28,000 households in Sheffield living in fuel poverty, many of them older people who struggle to keep their homes warm. This funding will enable us to support around 2,000 older people in our city to help them stay warm and healthy at home.”

This new project means that we will be able to develop our capacity in order to deliver expert energy advice through our Independent living coordination service. We will be training two members of our team to become energy advisors as well as enabling us to fund practical energy saving measures to be installed within people’s homes. Come the colder months, this project will have a big impact and help improve the lives of many of the most vulnerable members of our community across Sheffield.
