The Age UK Sheffield team were very saddened to hear that Bob Jackson, one of the much loved members of the Dore & Totley Sporting Chatter group, had passed away.
Joanna Glaves, who helped create the Sporting Chatter group explained that; “Bob was a regular member of the group and he was really popular with the other members as he had some fascinating stories about his life in sport. He created and presented ‘Praise or Grumble’ on Radio Sheffield for many years.”
Phil Mason, who runs the group, shared that “Robert was a very popular member of the group, he had great stories to tell and was a gifted raconteur. We were very much looking forward to him coming with us on our next cricket visit, one of his loves and he will be greatly missed by all of us.”
Above is a photo of Bob (sat in the middle) with fellow sporting chatter group members at their recent visit to Sheffield United Museum.
His funeral service will be held at Sheffield Cathedral on August 8 at 10.15am followed by a celebration of his life at Sheffield United' s Platinum Suite.
Bob’s loved ones have requested family flowers only, with any donations going to St. Lukes Hospice and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
