Bereaved Families in Salford Donation

Bereaved families in Salford have helped to raise £5,000 for Age UK Salford.

The donation has been raised through a charitable scheme, operated by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) of which Salford Council Bereavement Services are a member.

Under the scheme, with the consent of the family of the deceased, metal from medical implants is recycled after cremation and members of the scheme nominate local charities who support local people coping with the loss of a loved one. Barry Ellis, the Bereavement Services Manager from Salford City Council said: “The money raised will be used to go to Age UK - which makes a fantastic contribution to the lives of local people. The process of recycling the left over metals is done with great dignity and with the wishes of family members of the deceased. We are extremely grateful that at a time of grief, they have allowed us to help others.”

Sue Fletcher, Assistant Chief Executive Age UK Salford said: “We are delighted to receive this very generous donation which will be used to support older people in Salford and in particular those who have been recently bereaved. Age UK Salford offers support for people suffering with dementia and their carer’s and we have weekly social and support groups for older people in Swinton and Salford.”
