Rotherhams older peoples month 2017

Published on 20 September 2017 03:04 PM

This year, Rotherham Older People’s Forum, Age UK Rotherham and Rotherham Healthwatch are again working together to ensure that older people’s voices help to shape changes and services for the future of our ageing society.

Information about three key events being held during Rotherham Older People's Month 2017

We hope to engage a range of local people and other partners to think about how we can become a place that is more age friendly. Learning from what we were told last year older people will lead these conversations and our aim is to gather a wide range of views about the future of our communities. Through this project we’re asking: ‘How can Rotherham become more age friendly in the next ten years?’

We want more people to live in age-friendly communities and we are holding 3 key listening events during the month:

1. 'Tackling Loneliness' on Older People's Day - on Monday 2nd October, 10.00 am to midday, Rotherham Older People’s Forum will lead us in celebrating the International Day for Older Persons 2017 with an information event at Rotherham Minster.  There are a limited number of spaces for information stands so please let us know as soon as possible if your group would like to have one. This is a FREE event, just drop in.

2.On Wednesday 25th October, 10.00 am to 2.30 pm an AGE FRIENDLY ROTHERHAM event at Rotherham Town Hall will provide updates on what has happened in the last year and provide an opportunity to be part the discussions about what we need to do.

This will include the launch of the report from Rotherham Older People’s Forum’ recent research into loneliness in Rotherham.

We are inviting you as a local partner and/or community leader and we hope that you will be able to join us for all or part of these events.  Your input will be important in helping us to shape a vision for Rotherham as an Age Friendly community of the future.  You are also welcome to invite others from your organisation or any other interested people you know along to this event - subject to space being available.

Spaces are limited for this FREE event so please email or call Iain Cloke at Age UK Rotherham – iain.cloke@ageukrotherham.org - 01709 386831 -  to book your place(s)

3.On Monday 30th October, 10am to 12.30pm Rotherham Healthwatch is holding its annual event focussing on older people's health issues at the Fitzwilliam Arms Hotel, Parkgate.
