Digital support volunteer
As a digital support volunteer, you will be helping to support local people and communities to be more confident and involved in the online world.
What does the digital support volunteer role involve?
As more and more services move online and technology continues to develop at a rapid pace, it’s more important than ever that older people are not excluded and can make the most of the benefits of being online.
We know that lots of older people lack the motivation, confidence and know-how to get online. That’s why the role of a Digital Volunteer is so important. As a Digital Volunteer, you will help provide this vital support to digitally excluded older people – helping them to build their digital skills and confidence and enabling them to live a more included and independent life.
What will you get out of it?
- Sense of pride – Being able to see and hear first-hand the positive impact your involvement is having on someone’s life.
- Social connection
- Developing new skills – We will ensure you feel fully supported and knowledgeable to volunteer to the best of your ability.
- Being part of your local community
What sort of person are we looking for?
Digital Volunteers come from a range of different backgrounds and have varying levels of digital experience themselves, from IT professionals to people who are ‘newly converted’ to digital technology.
Whatever your background, the most important skill is enthusiasm. Being enthusiastic about the benefits of being online and being willing to share this with others is so beneficial to the role.
What is expected of me?
All you need is some basic IT knowledge, some time and patience to support people in your community. The ability to travel freely in your area is beneficial as Digital Support is offered in a variety of ways:
- Home Visits
- 1-2-1 IT lessons at other venues
- IT gadget drop-in’s available across the county in community venues (Libraries, Churches, etc)
