Dementia support volunteer
What does the Dementia support volunteer role involve?
Across the UK, someone is diagnosed with dementia every 3 minutes, there are more people living with dementia in the UK than with all types of cancer combined. You can help us give those living with dementia a better quality of life, that’s what it’s all about.
You could lend a hand at one of our dementia cafés, help us with fundraising, accompany someone to a dementia walk, and much more. It’s often just about showing up as a friendly face and lending an ear, helping to reduce social isolation and enabling people to live well with dementia.
What will you get out of it?
- We will provide ongoing volunteer support
- You’ll hear some fantastic stories
- It’s a great way to give back to your local community
- You can really tell when you make an impact on people
What sort of person are we looking for?
This will vary depending on the role in which you volunteer.
For example, if you want to volunteer at a walking group you will need to be able to walk for 45 minutes and be comfortable buddying up with people living with dementia and their carers. Alternatively, if you were looking to help out at one of our memory cafes you would need to be willing to listen and converse with people living with dementia.
No matter the skills you have, we can work together to find a way for you to make a positive impact on those living with dementia.
What will we expect of you?
Volunteering at a monthly café or walk would only require 2 hours a month, and we hold a variety of events throughout the county.
However, we have different roles available and requirements will vary for each one. You could help us out at as much or as little as you like depending on the time you’re able to commit.
