Book club volunteer
TeaBooks – social book groups for older people to share a love of books and reading while making new friends
What does the volunteer group leader role involve?
- Works closely with the local library to choose and source the books
- Works closely with the venue hosting the group
- Facilitates the group meetings with friendliness and empathy
- Is mindful of how members access and engage in groups
- Helps to attract new members where possible
- Is organised with the administrative tasks for their group:
- Keeps group members informed (by e mail or phone)
- Keeps track of the borrowed books
- Logs the monthly attendance figure
- Maintains contact with the TeaBooks co-ordinator, and completes the quarterly data collection surveys online
What will I get out of it?
The opportunity to create new friendships and meet new people, as well as develop leadership and social skills.
What sort of person are we looking for?
- Enjoys spending time with and talking with local people aged 60+ from a wide range of backgrounds
- Has a passion for reading a variety of authors and genres
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
- Good communication skills (both in person and via e-mail)
What is expected of me?
Approximately 3 hours a month (1 hour for the group session and 2 hours for the book selection, ordering, record keeping and other administration)
Where do you need volunteers?
We are currently looking for Volunteer Group Leaders to run TeaBooks groups in Banbury and Wallingford.
