Our commitment to the                    Age-friendly Employer Pledge

Published on 25 November 2024 08:56 AM

This National Older Workers Week, we’re pleased to announce our commitment to the Age-friendly Employer pledge, a nationwide initiative led by the Centre for Ageing Better.

We have signed up to the pledge to demonstrate how we value all workers regardless of age, seeking to improve work for people aged 50 and over and help them to flourish in a multigenerational workforce.

By signing the Age-friendly Employer Pledge, we join a network of forward-thinking employers who recognise the value and importance of older workers. The pledge commits our organisation to taking tangible actions to improve the recruitment, retention, and development of older employees, fostering a multigenerational workforce that thrives on diversity and experience.

CEO, Paul Ringer, said, "We’re very aware that ageism in the workplace is something many older people face, so we’re thrilled to show our commitment to older workers by signing the Age-friendly Employer Pledge. We take pride in having employees in their 60s and 70s, with 57% of our workforce over 50, and believe that age should never be a barrier to fulfilling any role.

By signing this pledge, we aim to demonstrate to older workers across Oxfordshire that we provide a welcoming and supportive work environment. By creating an inclusive workplace, we can make the most of the unique skills and experiences our older employees – a demographic which will become increasingly dominant and important, with one in three workers being aged 50+ by 2025.

We also hope to set an example for other organisations in the county, encouraging them to join us in signing the Age-friendly Employer Pledge.”

The Age-friendly Employer Pledge encourages employers to:

  • Create an age-friendly culture
  • Hire age-positively
  • Facilitate flexible working
  • Encourage career development at all ages
  • Ensure everyone has the health support they need

This commitment aligns with our broader mission to support and empower older people, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.
