Christmas Lunch returns to support Banbury’s lonely during cost-of-living crisis
Bibby Financial Services and Age UK Oxfordshire to host Christmas lunch for 100 guests
Banbury-based SME funder, Bibby Financial Services (“BFS”), is teaming up with Age UK Oxfordshire to host a Christmas event for 100 older people in the community who are facing loneliness and isolation this winter.
Its third annual event will be held at BFS’s headquarters in Adderbury on Thursday 7 December, and includes transport to and from the event, a two course Christmas meal, refreshments and entertainment – courtesy of local school choirs.
Becky Gilkes, organiser and Business Improvement Manager at BFS said: “One in five older people in Oxfordshire say they feel lonely, and for this community, Christmas and the festive periods are often the most difficult time of the year. As a business, we’re committed to supporting the local communities in which we live and work, and we’re pleased to be able to bring some festive joy as part of our Christmas Lunch event.”
Throughout the year, BFS colleagues held charitable events to raise funds for the event, in addition to donations from friends, family and business partners, and match-funding from BFS as part of its companywide Compass initiative.
Jackie Roberts, Cherwell Locality Team Manager at Age UK Oxfordshire commented: “With the cost-of-living crisis significantly impacting those on lower incomes, such as older people, this event is more important than ever. Not only does it provide guests with a fantastic Christmas meal and entertainment, it also provides opportunities for them to meet new people and to make friendships with others in the local community.”
This year, which marks the third event of its kind, includes a magician, prize draw and Christmas treats for all attendees.
Derek Ryan, Managing Director for BFS UK added: “We’re delighted to partner such an important organisation like Age UK Oxfordshire as part of our Compass initiative. This is what Bibby Financial Services is all about, and a huge thank you goes out to all of our colleagues who have organised and supported this event so far. Helping those in our communities in need of help is in our DNA and we look forward to welcoming our guests next month.”
