Day Twelve - 12 Stories of Christmas - ‘Wellbeing at Home’
Imagine not having the support of family and friends as your independence starts to disappear because of health issues. Scary, isn’t it? Our City Council commissioned services, Wellbeing at Home, provides that support for people who really need it to keep their independence a bit longer, to support them following a hospital stay or to prevent a readmission or a greater need for more formal care services.
The service offers help with a wide range of issues that can affect independence – sorting debt, help with accessing home repairs, prescription collections, shopping, applying for Blue Badges, benefits assessments, finding cleaners and other home-based services and even helping people improve their tech skills. Every person is different and our specialist teams and amazing volunteers work with them to make life easier. K (in his 60s) was helped to access an in-home eye test, later life financial planning and to use his digital technology to remain connected to his friends, family and wider range of interests. He was much less worried about the future.
Don’t take our word for it:
J (in her 60s) faced lots of barriers because of her health conditions and a wide-ranging support plan was put in place to help her feel more confident about managing her life. Sometimes, even having enough to eat was a problem.
“Without the volunteer, I wouldn’t have had any food in the home and the information I have received has been very helpful.”
D (in her 90s) was worried about accessing dental appointments in an unfamiliar surgery.
“ [I] would not have been able to attend this appointment without the support worker’s help [and] felt less scared about going to appointments in the future”.
We can only accept specialist referrals into this particular service but you can find details of all the ways we might be able you on our website.
