In the unlikely event of rolling power cuts over the winter, here are some hints and tips to consider:
- Fully charge your laptops and mobile phones in advance, and consider alternatives to the internet
- Speak to your workplace about Flexible Working so you can amend your hours to work around power cuts
- Consider your caring arrangements and travel in advance, so you can think about what to do in a power cut
- It may be quite scary for some to be without lighting and heating for extended periods of time, so consider having a buddy to get you through the tough moments
You might like to think about making up an Emergency Box – a torch and spare batteries, blanket, some snacks and a flask. That way, you can access the essentials quickly if there is an unexpected power cut and if it’s been scheduled, you can fill up your flask with a hot drink to keep you going for a few hours.
You could even put in some foods that can be prepared just with hot water – Pot Noodle, anyone?
