No age limit: The hidden face of domestic abuse

Published on 11 November 2019 09:00 AM

Age UK launched this very important report and new campaign on older people and domestic abuse in October 2019.

Why?
There are no reliable figures for older people aged 75+ experiencing domestic abuse and that means that resources to support them may not be allocated affectively. Age UK is asking for:

  1. The definition of domestic abuse must include abuse by carers including friends and neighbours, as well as family members.
  2. There should be training for health care practitioners, including GPs and practice nurses, who work with older people, particularly during hospital admission and discharge.
  3. Data on domestic abuse must be gathered for all ages, not just people aged 74 and under.
  4. Better links between the NHS and police are needed to make sure older victims of abuse are properly protected and supported.
