Finding Activities for Older People in Norfolk made easier

Published on 18 February 2021 01:05 PM

Age UK Norwich and Norfolk have combined to launch a new Age friendly website that specifically promotes activities for people aged 50+ in the Norfolk Area. ENGAGE as the website is called can be used to search for community groups, events, activities and training opportunities that are beneficial for older people.

Research has shown that over 40% of older people in Norwich do not participate in activities which can predispose individuals to health risks such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, obesity and other long term health conditions. According to Sam Apeh, Age UK Norwich Community and Neighbourhood support manager, “the website is different from others because anyone using it know that whatever they find is appropriate for their age”. This reduces the time people spend calling around to find out what is appropriate and available to them. The Map function on the Home page makes it easier and faster to search for activities within your area.

Instructors and organisations can also promote their activities and events on the website by completing the contact information page. “The website is updated regularly by a dedicate staff and we have made sure to include modern accessibility functions and instructions so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of the site”.
