Music and Movement Club Launches in Norwich

Published on 17 June 2024 11:10 AM

Age UK Norwich, Friend in Deed, Glow-Worms and Corton House are delighted to announce the launch of a new club entitled "Music and Movement". This exciting initiative aims to bring together individuals of all ages in the community to enjoy the positive effects of music and movement on overall well-being.

Corton House is a Norwich based not-for-profit care provider which has been running a monthly Community Café at the Jubilee Centre since 2022, offering older people the chance to socialise, get information and advice, and enjoy a free, freshly cooked meal and refreshments.

Joining this pre-existing club, Age UK Norwich, Friend in Deed and Glow-Worms will offer people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in activities that combine music and movement. These activities may include singing familiar nursery rhymes and songs, gentle movement and interacting with babies and pre-school children and their parents/carers.

By participating in these intergenerational activities, club members can expect to experience a range of benefits, including benefits including improved mood, revisiting childhood memories, positively impacting the development of young children and babies, making new friendships and singing as part of a group.

Charlotte Govier, Health and Community Support Leadfrom Age UK Norwich said “We’re very excited to be working alongside Friend in Deed and Corton House Community Café to bring together those of all ages through music. I’m a huge advocate for intergenerational activity and the positive impact it has, not only for the younger generation but those living in later life too.”

Kelly Lindsay, founder and managing director of Friend in Deed said “Collaborating with Age UK Norwich is a fabulous opportunity for Friend in Deed.  We are very passionate about intergenerational schemes and services that enhance the well being of older people, including those living with dementia in our community.  As a charity, we believe that linking up with other organisations increases impact."

Imogen Bowers, Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator from Corton House said “We are excited to be partnering with Age UK Norwich, Friend In Deed and Glow Worms to enhance our monthly Community Café at the Jubilee Centre with some intergenerational music and movement alongside our free, freshly-made lunches and refreshments. Our existing participants are looking forward to enjoying not only each other’s company, but now also that of younger generations!

The club runs from 1-3pm on the first Tuesday of the month, and those interested can arrange free transport subject to availability by calling Norwich Door to Door on 01603 776 735 and mentioning Corton House Community Café.
