Age UK have today launched their blueprint for party leaders ahead of the 2024 general election. Asking older people directly, what their priorities are and their views on policies that will affect them.
They carried out a variety of feedback opportunities to inform their viewpoint, including:
- Conducting representative polling across the UK of 2,500 people over the age of 50.
- They surveyed 525 older people including older people from ethnic minorities and the LGBTQ+ community, along with older people who are traditionally not interviewed by polling companies.
- And they heard from 16,700 of our online campaigners.
The Manifesto sets out a number of key areas and asks that party leaders pledge to take on these policy ideas, making a commitment to supporting those over 50 as part of their campaigns. Age UK are asking for:
- The income security from the Triple Lock staying in place and a reduction in pensioner poverty.
- A reliable NHS where they can see their GP quickly and get hospital treatment within a reasonable timescale, and decent social care when its needed.
- For our new Government to create a long-term plan for older people and to take the lead in tackling the challenges and seizing the opportunities presented by our rapidly ageing population, and for older people's voices to be heard when big decisions are taken affecting them.
The blueprint considers the needs of older adults in our communities, including:
- Suitable high quality care
- Access to NHS services
- Including and valuing the voices of older people
- Pension Poverty
- Homes and Heating
- Digital Exclusion
- Community and Wellbeing
- Money Management and support
