Successful parkrun takeover by Age UK Norwich

On Saturday 13th May, Age UK Norwich brought together a team of 12 volunteers, comprised of their staff and trustees, to host a takeover of Sloughbottom parkrun.
As a local independent charity, our mission is to improve the quality of later life in Norwich to create an age-friendly and inclusive city. We provide a range of support and services for older people which enables them to live healthy and connected lives, such as health coaching, befriending and more than 20 clubs and trips.
The Age UK Norwich team, supported by several experienced parkrun volunteers, filled the essential volunteering roles of the event, including barcode scanning, time keeping and marshalling. They were also available to answer questions about the charity and to distribute the charity’s guide to services which provides an overview of how they support people aged 50+ in Norwich.
The event was well-received despite the grey weather, with a fantastic turnout of 181 participants, including 10 first timers. Furthermore, 17 new personal bests were recorded, and tourists attended from as far as St Albans.
The event would not have been possible without the collaboration of the Sloughbottom and Age UK Norwich Team. Our thanks in particular go to Miranda Ellis, who helped to organise this event along with the Fundraising & Events Coordinator of Age UK Norwich, Holly Harrington.
