In Net Zero Week, North Tyneside Council is delighted to recognise another local organisation for cutting carbon emissions.
Age UK North Tyneside is the latest winner of the Council’s Carbon Reduction Silver Award.
Launched in 2023, the awards recognise organisations who are committed to reducing their carbon footprint, in line with the Council’s aims to be carbon net zero by 2030.
Age UK North Tyneside is investing in hybrid fleet vehicles, installing LEDS and has been recycling more.
It has appointed in-house energy champions and is training frontline staff in energy efficiency. The organisation is now working towards achieving Gold.
Councillor Sandra Graham, Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, said: “By making so many important changes, Age UK North Tyneside is having a positive impact on everyone who lives, works or visits North Tyneside.
“The award is a great way for businesses to not only help the environment, but to also help themselves become more sustainable and profitable.
“I would strongly recommend others to follow in the same steps as Age UK North Tyneside and work to earn a Carbon Reduction Award, with the support and guidance of North Tyneside Council”.
Dawn McNally, Group Chief Executive “We are delighted to have received the Silver Carbon Reduction Award from North Tyneside Council.
“Our goal is for everyone to enjoy later life. For us to achieve this goal, it’s vital for us to take action to address the climate crisis we find ourselves in.
“Over the last year, we have been making a concerted effort to reduce our carbon emissions and help make North Tyneside a greener borough.
“It’s an honour for our efforts to be recognised and we look forward to reducing our emissions further next year.”
