Cancer Champion Volunteering in North Shields

Published on 02 July 2024 11:29 AM

The Fishermen's Mission is working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide a cancer community programme, a first of its kind with the maritime sector.

Established in 1881, the Fishermen's Mission has a long history of providing support to active and former fishermen and their families. C Aware is a small and friendly team supported by Cancer Champion Volunteers; members of the community who bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.

Based at North Shields Fish Quay, they work alongside the fishing community to increase awareness and knowledge of cancer, associated risks, symptoms, treatment, aftercare, and supporting organisations in the area.
