August Round-Up

Published on 10 September 2024 10:06 AM

As the winter months sneak up on us as we begin September, we’re here to share Age UK North Tyneside’s updates from August 💙

🌟 Our new Health & Wellness classes took off in August across Wideopen, Whitley Bay and Longbenton. We’re now offering a wider range of activities and classes for everyone to enjoy! Find out more here.

🌟 Our Strength & Balance programme celebrated its 100th course! Strength & Balance is designed to support and rehabilitate those who’ve suffered a fall with exercises. Read more here.

🌟 Our MCST group will be introducing its new cohort in October. Maintaining Cognitive Stimulating Therapy is a programme of activities to support memory and provide those with dementia with an inclusive environment to make friends. To be assessed by our Admiral Nurse team, get in touch here.

🌟 The Grief Circle’s first group of sessions came to an end. With the excellent feedback from participants, the second cohort will begin shortly. If you’re interested in joining the bereavement support group, read more and get in touch here.

🌟 Our Age Friendly Survey with Healthwatch North Tyneside came to an end. We’d like to thank all those who participated and we can’t wait to share the results with you!

🌟 Our Befriending Service is in the works to relaunch shortly, to support older people in North Tyneside with establishing friendships to combat loneliness. To do this we need your help. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer please get in touch here.

🤝 We have other volunteering opportunities available if you want to make a difference to the lives of older people. See all opportunities here.

It might seem early, but we’re here to help you prepare for the winter months ahead…

The rules for receiving the Winter Fuel Payment have changed. We’re supporting Age UK’s petition to change this and make sure the payment is received by those who need it. You can read more and sign the petition here.

If you’d like to check if you’re eligible for Pension Credit which will support receiving the Winter Fuel Payment, you can contact our Information & Advice team. We’re working with Citizens Advice North Tyneside and North Tyneside Council to offer free eligibility checks for pension credit. To receive yours, contact the team and quote ‘winterfuel50’.

We are also supporting Age UK’s Offline & Overlooked Campaign. This aims to prevent digital being the default for people who prefer to handle their affairs in person. With more services being online, things such as getting a doctor’s appointment have become difficult for older people. Join us in supporting this and sign the petition today.

And that’s all from us! If you require any support, get in touch with one of the team today 💙
