With a little help from us you can improve your safety and security and enjoy your home more.
What does the service offer?
This service enables older people to carry on living independently in their own home.
• We supply and fit a police-approved Supra C500 key safe for £97
• We supply and fit a grabrail for £34 (each additional grab rail £16)
• We can replace light bulbs, fuses and plugs, fixing dripping taps
• We carry out small carpentry work such as mending wardrobe doors
• We can deal with trip hazards such as uneven floorboards or protruding cables
• We put up pictures and shelves
• Our charge for connecting a personal alarm is £30
• We can level paving slabs, mend and make gates, minor repairs to fences
• We can assemble flat pack furniture

Who is it for?
People aged 60 and over living in Northamptonshire. We aim to cover the whole of the county and are actively recruiting handypersons.
Our Handypersons are a trusted visitor who will have the welfare of their clients at heart. Keeping a home secure and well maintained can help deter doorstep crime.
How much does it cost?
We charge £30 per hour.
For larger jobs we can provide a free written quotation without obligation.
We can visit to change the code on your key safe or to show you how to use it - a one-off charge of £16 is made to cover our costs.
Payment is by invoice after the job has been completed.

Our workforce is made up of paid staff and volunteers and we cover the whole of Northamptonshire.
Our friendly, reliable Handypersons are fully insured and DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and have provided references, which we have checked.
We only fit police-approved key safes
Key safes are a trusted and secure way to enable carers or the emergency services to access to your home if you are unable to let them in because of illness or some other reason.
Our Handyperson Service only supplies and fits the Supra C500 model for £97.
Made from thick, hardened zinc alloy, the Supra C500 has a single-piece construction which makes it extremely attack resistant. It is reported that it is easier to break down the front door than get into this model of key safe. It also has a storm-resistant cover.
The Supra C500 is a police-preferred key safe and is LPS 1175 issue 8A5 rated, and you may wish to mention this to your home insurance provider if you have one fitted.
Personal alarms from Careline 365
Careline 365 are our preferred partner for Personal Alarms, sometimes known as "lifelines". Age UK Northamptonshire can arrange for the Personal Alarm to be delivered.
If you would like us to connect it, our handyperson will visit your home at a charge of £30. They will ensure the digital system is correctly connected to the call centre and perform a test call while they are in your home. They will demonstrate how the system works and happily answer any questions for your peace of mind.
The BT analogue switch-off means that all Personal Alarms will need to be digital by December 2025. If you wish to upgrade to a new digital system now, please give us a call.
