About the role

Come and play a part in this exciting new venture for Age UK Northamptonshire.  We are expanding and developing our retail operations in Higham Ferrers by opening in new premises that will specialise in furniture and homewares.  We need an enthusiastic, creative person who will support the Shop Manager in operating a profitable and attractive shop for our customers and donors.  By using their knowledge of the market and having a willingness to learn, the Home Store Deputy Manager will show innovation, flair and creativity with the shop layout and merchandising.

You will work alongside the House Clearance team, assessing donations of furniture and helping to ensure we make the best use of modern, vintage and retro items that can be sold to raise vital funds for the charity.  You will work with volunteers, and also help maintain accurate accounts, records and logs and to perform any other administrative tasks in connection with the shop.

About you

If you love vintage, have a passion for home decor and are brilliant at spotting items with potential for upscaling, this is the job for you.  Our new store will stock everything from G-Plan dining chairs to Edwardian side tables.  You may already have an interest in upholstery or possibly some French polishing skills; a willingness to learn new techniques and to have a go are vital.  We are looking for someone who can carry out minor repairs to items of furniture and is interested in gaining new skills through training.

Experience of working in retail is essential, as are an excellent understanding of home decor fashions and trends in soft furnishings and wooden furniture.  Your merchandising skills can help keep our shop profitable as well as making it a go-to destination for people who appreciate the quirky and are looking for something special.

You must have a good standard of education and be computer literate.  You will also need to have experience of maintaining cash and general banking.  This is an opportunity to provide an excellent service to the community and work with a small, friendly team, knowing that you are helping to make a difference to older people in Northamptonshire.
