We welcome students

We are sure that you will enjoy volunteering with us, and that you will always feel supported and safe.  During your placement you will gain skills in working with older people and alongside our friendly team.

We are proud of our partnerships with schools, colleges and the University of Northampton in Northamptonshire.  We can accommodate students on placements with us studying health and social care, counselling, public health or medicine, for example. 

We require a minimum of 50 hour placement.  This is subject to availability.

Our requirement for students are:

  • in our shops we accept young people age 16 or over.  In some instances we can accommodate young people age 14 or over who are undertaking Duke of Edinburgh awards
  • in our day centres we accept young people who are age 16 or over and will require and enhanced DBS check
  • able to commit on a regular weekly basis for a minimum period of three months
  • we are looking for enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference

Role description

You will be given full details of the role.  This in no way implies or states that a contract of employment is or will be offered. This is a voluntary unpaid role.

What your day could involve

  • Ensuring all clients are welcomed and acknowledged
  • Assisting our team with serving refreshments and lunches
  • Encouraging and helping clients with activities, either on a one-to-one basis or in a group
  • Ensuring client safety is paramount at all times
  • Being prepared to sit and spend time with clients

Your responsibilities

  • you must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • be courteous and professional 
  • arrive in good time and dressed appropriately for your shift
