Our history since the 1950s
We were formed as the Northamptonshire Advisory Committee for Old People’s Welfare in 1952 and adopted the name Age Concern in 1971, in common with Old People’s Welfare Committees across the country.
The charities that became Age Concern Northampton and Age Concern Northamptonshire had been established in the 1950s as independent organisations. In April 1997 the two organisations merged to form Age Concern Northampton & County as an independent charitable organisation. At our AGM, on 3rd November 2006, it was unanimously agreed to change the charity’s name to Age Concern Northamptonshire.
Following the merger of Age Concern England and Help the Aged under the new name of Age UK, Age Concerns were invited to share that name. From 19th April 2011 we joined the new brand and became Age UK Northamptonshire. We continue to be a local, independent, voluntary organisation, serving the needs of older people in our county and proud to be part of a national family which works to improve life for older people everywhere.
Join us and help make a difference in Northamptonshire.
