Celebrating 40th anniversary of Volunteers Week
This year we marked Volunteers Week by holding our very own event to celebrate the contribution of all our fantastic volunteers and the students who work alongside us. We also say a big thank you to the fabulous pianist and singer Kelly Israel who provided the entertainment, volunteering her time for free. As usual we laid on a tasty buffet, free raffle and other fun for all attendees!
Volunteers Co-ordinator Caroline Roy and all of us at Age UK Northamptonshire would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support, dedication and care you give to so many.
Nicky in our Burton Latimer shop says “I love meeting the local people, and every day at the shop is different. I take pride in giving time back to people and love feeling part of a great team.”
Volunteering is a great way to have fun as well as make a positive difference in your community.
Sheila in our Brackley shop says "I love the interaction with the customers and colleagues. I love the quote on the wall in the toilets: We came here as colleagues but the laughter and fun we share has made us friends. It’s a pleasure to be here. I enjoy it here and that is why I have been here so long. "
Senior Co-ordinator Amey [above with lanyard] says a special thank you to the students who volunteer at our day centres.
Ann in our Rothwell shop says "I joined Age UK Northamptonshire as a volunteer originally as I worked alone and wanted to mix with others. Over the years I became a Keyholder and also covered other shops in the county when they were short staffed. It is so rewarding and people are so friendly. It is great to talk with customers, especially as sometimes you are the only voice they might hear all week and money raised goes to local use. Age UK Northamptonshire does such a worthwhile job."
Volunteers Co-ordinator Caroline ([left with volunteer befriender Sheila] also visited our eight shops and both day centres to give out badges, key rings and other small gifts for long service, to show our appreciation of the vital work of our volunteers.
Caroline says "Our volunteers are invaluable to the charity. They give up their time to help us to improve the lives of older people in Northamptonshire. It is lovely when we receive feedback from our clients telling us how much they enjoy their friendly chats with our volunteers through our Telephone Befriending Service."
Clients at our day centre in Kettering say a colourful thank you to all the volunteers who cheer them up every week and enable them meet up with friends.
