We provide services and support in Northamptonshire
You're never too far from one of our charity shops in Northamptonshire. The window in Higham Ferrers is looking paticularly autumnal at the moment and volunteer Lisa [pictured above] enjoys using her skills to create an attractive display. “I enjoy volunteering here," she says. "The customers and team are lovely.”
We were thrilled that copies of the Summer 2023 edition of our free magazine are now available at the community shop in the car park at the rear of the Red Lion Pub in Kilsby. Manager Sarah [pictured above] says they're open every day of the week (half day on Sunday) and the shop is run entirely by a team of volunteers.
It's always a pleasure to call into The Olive Branch cafe in Brixworth and even better when they have a full collecting goblet for us to take away. Huge thanks to Dawn, Lynne and Sue [pictured above] for their support and to everyone who put their spare change into our goblet on the counter. They have raised an amazing £103.59 which will help support local older people.
We're always pleased to visit local groups and clubs for older people, to give details of the services and support the charity provides in the county. Our thanks to Maureen and June [pictured above] for inviting us to the Church Group in Kingsthorpe to talk about such topics as toenail cutting, gardening, Power of Attorney and key safes. We hope the group of ladies found our visit useful and that they will get in touch on 01604 611200 to find out more.
And where better to spend a sunny hour in October than the friendly community cafe in Blisworth. Thank you to Pastor Lee and everyone at the Blisworth Baptist Church for the warm welcome and for taking a supply of our Engage magazines.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service offer free home fire safety checks to vulnerable older people living in the county, including fitting a smoke alarm. We were pleased to visit White Watch at their station in Kettering to find out more about the support they provide. It was also an opportunity to discuss how we can work together to keep local older people safe.
Thank you to the friendly and highly efficient staff at Spinney Brook Medical Centre in Irthlingborough for inviting us to have an information stall at their flu vaccination clinic for people age 65 and over on Saturday 14th October. We were delighted to hand out copies of our Engage magazine to over 300 people and to provide leaflets on topics such as Power of Attorney, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance. Our Social Prescribing Link Worker Tina will be at Spinney Brook Medical Centre for the flu clinic for people age 18 to 64.
