Over 1,600 little hats is an amazing achievement
Staff at our charity shop in Rothwell were delighted when a customer brought in a large bag of little woolly hats, but they were not able to discover who had knitted them before he disappeared. The next time he came in with another bag Manager Natasha McAlindon [pictured above right] managed to speak to him and discovered that his wife was the mystery knitter.
Natasha says that she and her team were delighted to invite knitter Margaret Wride to the shop so that they could properly thank her for her amazing contribution. So far, Margaret has knitted over 1,600 little hats for Age UK Northamptonshire and she hasn't finished yet.
On Monday 5th July Margaret posed for a photo outside our shop at 30 Bridge Street with her knitting needles and Natasha displaying some of her fantastic little hats.
Margaret tells us that she has been knitting little hats for the Big Knit fundraiser for many years. She has always knitted, but started creating little hats after her daughter gave her some knitting patterns so that she could help raise funds for a local Age UK in the north east. Now that Margaret has moved to Northamptonshire, Age UK Northamptonshire is very happy to be the beneficiary of her hard work and skill. Margaret says friends and relatives keep her supplied with odds and ends of spare wool. She is particularly keen to mention a Facebook Group in Desborough who have kindly supplied her with many balls of wool.
Knitting over 1,600 little hats is an amazing achievement and goes a long way to helping us reach our target of 10,000. Every hat will raise vital funds from innocent smoothies, helping us to carry on making a difference to older people in Northamptonshire.
Our shop in Rothwell stocks an excellent selection of wool!
