121 bags of festive goodies will be distributed
Once again the Lions Club of Northampton's Can Collection is set to cheer up many older people in Northampton and reassure them that they have not been forgotten. We say a huge thank you to David Williams, President of the Northampton Lions Clubs, and to his fellow volunteers who brought crates of donated items to The William and Patricia Venton Centre on Sunday 29th November.
And we say a special thank you to members of the public who have raided their kitchen cupboards or put an extra couple of items in the supermarket trolley so that they can support the annual collection. Their generosity and community spirit means that cans of soup, beans, pineapple and all kinds of delicious goodies have been sorted into bags and will be distributed throughout Northampton by Age UK Northamptonshire.
This year our volunteers had to sort the donations in a covid-secure environment at our day centre in York Road.
Link Worker Jonathan [pictured above], who works for our Social Prescribing Service, will be giving the bags of goodies to several of his clients between now and Christmas. The kind donations mean we are able to give a pleasant surprise to some of our day centre clients, some of whom do not expect to receive any Christmas presents this year. Age UK Northamptonshire provides support to some of the most vulnerable people in the county and we know that the food items will be much-appreciated.
We are proud to work with another voluntary organisation to improve later life for people in our community. Please get in touch on 01604 611200 if you have any questions about the Can Collection.
