We are delighted that our Extra Help at End of Life Service has been rated "good" by the Care Quality Commission.
Age UK Northamptonshire provides dedicated care and support to people who are registered with a Northamptonshire GP and thought to be in the last eight weeks of their life and wish to die in their own home. At the time of the CQC inspection the Extra Help at End of Life Service was supporting 14 people.
The inspectors found that "Staff treated people with kindness, dignity and respect and spent time getting to know people." They also found that " People were happy with the way that staff provided their care and support and they were encouraged to make decisions about how they wanted their care to be provided."
The inspectors spoke to the relatives of people being cared for the by the service. One family member said, "We feel safe and supported by the staff, they are never late and they know what they are doing; that makes us feel safe". Another relative told them, "[name] is in very safe hands with the staff."
Chief Executive Christopher Duff said: "I am delighted with the report as it reflects the hard work and dedication of our team. I am particularly pleased that the inspectors acknowledge that we treat people with kindness and respect and that Age UK Northamptonshire works in partnership with other agencies to ensure quality of care across all levels."
Su Brazell, who manages the service, explains that feedback from relatives of the people who have used the service helps Age UK Northamptonshire monitor and improve the quality of the care provided. Relatives tell us "I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the support staff who visited [name], you were all superb."
This service is provided at a very difficult time in people's lives and another family member told us that being at home is "where [name] wanted to be and we are so grateful to have been able to grant him that wish."
