A Mystery Tour and a canal trip in August

We like to encourage older people to try something new and enjoy getting out and about in the beautiful county of Northamptonshire.
Last week the Blackthorn Wellbeing Group, about 25 people, went on a canal trip and had a fantastic time. We went for a four hour cruise with Crusader Community Boats north along the Grand Union canal, taking in the The Wharf Public House at Bugbrook for lunch. Crusader Community Boats has run a number of trips for our wellbeing groups this summer.
Another 36 people from our Blackthorn, Lings, Lumbertubs and Goldings wellbeing groups were taken on a Mystery Tour. We visited Weekley, Geddington, Deenthorpe and Fothinghay to take in some local history. At every location our day trippers were given a list of historical and geographical questions and asked to find the answers. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Falcon Public House at Fotheringhay, before returning home.
Ken Nokes says: The Mystery Tour was the best ever. We took 33 friends on a tour of Weekley, Geddington, Deenethorpe and Fotheringhay, drawing their attention to historical events in Northamptonshire and covering around 1000 years of history.
It was a beautiful day and everybody was very happy. We are doing it again on in September but going south this time. It'll be difficult to live up to the first Mystery Tour but we'll do our best!
