Volunteer Appreciation Event

Published on 11 July 2024 11:45 AM

On Thursday 4th July, Age UK Norfolk proudly hosted a Volunteer Celebration event to honour and celebrate the unwavering dedication and hard work of our volunteers in helping us make Norfolk a great place to grow older.

Our volunteers, who are the backbone of our organisation, were treated to an afternoon of gratitude and recognition for the incredible expertise they bring to our services. The event, held at The Oaklands Hotel, commenced with a warm welcome drinks reception, during which talented magician and our host for the afternoon, Edd Crafter, got everyone talking by performing to small groups. His presence added a touch of magic to the afternoon and his mesmerising tricks delighted attendees, creating a memorable experience for all.

Volunteers were then treated to a group performance by Edd, before Stephen Drake, our Chair of the Board of Trustees, delivered an inspiring speech, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all our volunteers.

“Organisations succeed on the strength of their workforce, and particularly their volunteers. Recruiting volunteers is difficult so we treasure all of you that help us and… without the volunteers there would be no Age UK Norfolk. So, on behalf of the staff and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank you all. I hope you get something out of the volunteering yourselves and I hope that you will spend many more years offering your services. Thank you.”

The presentation of awards then commenced for volunteers who have devoted more than ten years of service to Age UK Norfolk. These long-standing volunteers were recognised for their enduring commitment and significant contributions to our cause. Their dedication is an inspiration to us all and a testament to the positive impact of volunteerism. After the wards, attendees were treated to a lunch of afternoon tea.

Age UK Norfolk extends its deepest thanks to all volunteers for their extraordinary efforts and contributions. Without our 185 volunteers we could not provide the services we do for the over 50s in our beautiful county. The Volunteer Celebration event was a small token of our appreciation for the significant and positive impact they make in our community. Their selfless contributions ensure that we can continue to deliver excellent services to the older community in Norfolk.

One of our service users put it best when they said, “The help on the phone and during home visit has been so excellent as being able to be understood clearly and treated as "myself" has been such a positive experience at this difficult time for me. The information was clear and I had no idea I could claim more funds. I hope your organisation gets to help more people like me. Forever grateful.”
