- London Loos Campaign Honoured as Runner-Up for best community campaigning in SMK Awards
Age UK London is proud to announce that it has been named the runner-up in the prestigious Sheila McKechnie Foundation Awards (SMK) in the Best Community Campaign category. This recognition highlights the organisation’s unwavering commitment to advocating for the needs and rights of older people across the capital.
The awards ceremony saw campaigners from across the country come together to celebrate each other's achievements.
Age UK London has celebrated the significant victory with its London Loos campaigners, older people from across the capital, many of them new to campaigning. The campaign is aimed at improving public toilet access in London and has led to tangible improvements in the provision of public toilets. The campaigning on a local level is led by groups of campaigners who have formed deputations, conducted toilet audits, met council leaders, and organised petitions and much more.
Age UK London has been at the forefront of community campaigning for better public toilet provision, working to ensure that the voices of older Londoners are heard. The SMK Awards, known for celebrating the best in social justice and community action, has recognised the significant contributions of Age UK London campaign team and campaign champions.
Abi Wood, CEO, Age UK London said, “We are incredibly honoured that the older campaigners we are privileged to support have been recognised in this way. This award is a testament to the tireless efforts of the campaigners and recognition of the hard work of our team.
“Our mission has always been to champion the rights and voices of older Londoners. This recognition validates our efforts and inspires us to continue our work with even greater determination.”
