Age UK London is delighted to announce that it has been awarded funding by the National Lottery Community Fund to run campaign workshops. This financial support will enable the organisation to expand its advocacy efforts and empower older Londoners from across the capital.
The funding from the National Lottery Community Fund will be instrumental in launching a series of campaign workshops. These workshops will enable older Londoners to develop the skills and confidence to help change, and shape their local area for the better, to make it more age friendly and ensure that the voices and experiences of older residents are considered by local decision-makers.
Abi Wood, CEO, Age UK London said, “We are incredibly grateful for the National Lottery’s generous support. This funding will enable us to reach more older Londoners and equip them with the tools to campaign on the issues that matter to them.
“The workshops are a crucial part of our mission to teach and empower older Londoners when it comes to campaigning on a local London level and, with the National Lottery’s Community Fund support, make a greater impact in their community.”
Age UK London plan to create four workshops across the year resulting in training for many new campaigners.
Age UK London organsied a successful series of digital workshops during 2022/23 funded by the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists. They provided older people with the skills to use online tools, such as petitions, to ensure their voices are heard, and acted on, by local decision makers. In total, these created 81 new “campaign champions” who attended four workshops with resources shared with a further 85 grassroot organisations.
