Age UK London - Statement on TfL's Funding Announcement

Yesterday’s announcement about funding for Transport for London now provides much needed certainty for Londoners of all ages. Better transport benefits everyone and this requires a good level of funding. Strong funding deals are crucial to ensure projects to improve accessibility on transport networks are protected and enhanced.

Despite a new deal we are concerned that what has been offered will not be sufficient to enable vital investment in projects such as increasing the number of step-free stations on the network.

We also await news about a decision on the pre-9am weekday suspension on Older Persons Freedom Pass and 60+ Oyster Card use. Until a decision has been made we reiterate our call for the Mayor to lift the suspension and reinstate concessionary travel before 9am. This is particularly important during this time when older Londoners face increasing daily pressures due to the rising cost of living.
