‘Tea for the Queen’ brings Veterans closer and combats loneliness.
Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire and Pepperells Solicitors teamed up to deliver a virtual event on Wednesday 21st April for local Veterans to combat loneliness and food poverty.
The event brought together those who have been isolated during the pandemic and offered them a chance to meet with fellow veterans and members of their community to raise a cup of tea to her majesty the Queen, on her 95th Birthday and for the late Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Throughout the pandemic, Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire has been supporting the older community with digital upskilling, companionship and meal delivery services. ‘Tea for the Queen’ is the latest addition to the long list of supporter focused events the charity has organised since March 2020.
Michele Jolly, Chief Executive Officer at Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire, said: “Virtual events such as these are so important for our older community to combat loneliness and food poverty. We provided an afternoon tea box with sandwiches, savoury snacks, tea and cake for some of our communities most vulnerable members. Being able to come together with the support of Pepperells Solicitors and raise a cup of tea to the Queen on her Birthday and in memory of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. This was a significant event for those who have felt the impact of the pandemic from an emotional wellbeing point of view.”
Clare Williams of Pepperells Solicitors who are supporting the event, said “We was delighted to be able to support Age UK Lincoln and South Lincolnshire and this incredibly important initiative. The Vital for Veterans project has brought joy to many veterans in our area, supporting with feelings of loneliness and isolation and providing a much-needed lifeline in these uncertain times. Our veterans have given so much for our everyday freedoms, with courage, duty and commitment to our country. It is a privilege to partner with Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire and give something back to them in their time of need.”
Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire supported veterans with 1831 wellbeing packs in 2020.
