The knitting classes that run as one of a wide range of activities at Age UK Lewisham and Southwark's Yalding Healthy Living Centre have recently been the focus of a brilliant article in Prima, which you can access here.
Loneliness is a growing issue, and can be especially acute among older people. An Age UK national study suggests 1.7 million older people will not have met up with a friend in the last month.
Age UK Lewisham and Southwark is committed to reducing loneliness among the older people it supports, and has many initiatives in place to do so, including the knitting group at our Yalding Healthy Living Centre.
An excerpt from the article follow:
'Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK, told Prima: "Local groups and clubs, like the Age UK Lewisham and Southwark knitting class, can really help to tackle the serious issue of loneliness, especially amongst older people.
“Through a range of national and local services including activities such as coffee mornings, IT classes, and more tailored schemes including face-to-face and telephone befriending, Age UK and its network of local partners are working hard to combat the issue of loneliness.”'
